sigh.... still at work....

Dammit.... it's Christmas Eve and I'm spending it at work. Ugghhhh. My stuff is packed in my truck, my ass is ready to get the hell out of here, and here I am wallowing in the pits of boredomness and hunger waiting for the messengers to let the slaves out of their pens. What is wrong with this picture? I am working while 90% of my friends and co-workers are either shopping, spending time with their families or just plain sleeping the day away. This sucks. I know I'm whining like a bitch, but who cares, no one's gonna read this anyway. My fanclub of three all left since they had better things to do than entertain themselves with my poorly written diatribe.

Someone kill me!!! Anyway, for those few that accidentally stumble into this, Merry Frickin' Christmas and a Happy New Year!!!!!

Thy liver forgive thee...

This Christmas season is killing me. The 25th isn't even here yet, and I'm already sick and tired of all the parties I've been to. Don't get me wrong; I've enjoyed every last one of them, but my body is hurting right now. Take this morning for example, I drove down to San Diego from LA to go straight to work. I woke up early this morning to start my drive, even though my internal clock was telling me to get the fuck back to bed!! During the drive, that's when I realized that I hadn't gotten enough sleep because I was just SO exhausted. I mean, geez!!! I fell asleep in my cubicle!! I was drooling on my keyboard before my co-worker was able to wake my butt up. I guess this is a sign that those 4-hour-a-night spurts ain't gonna do you any good when your bod is trying to recover from all the alcohol you've been consuming. And I've been drinking like booze was going out of style. If my liver could, it would probably try to sue my sorry, tired ass right now for organ abuse.

Damn nature! Why can't I have two livers?!?!

The beautiful Nancy.... do we dare ask?

Went to a party last friday at Mark's pad in Fountain Valley. Let's just say there were alot of fun to be had. It was so much fun that Donny endulged way too much. Homeboy got so drunk that he was hurling out in the front and in the garage. If he wasn't sufferring so much, I would've thought that it was hella funny. Anyway, Nancy came out to see if she could help and what does Donny do? He asks her,

"Nancy, you are so beautiful.... why the hell are you single?!?!?!".

Man, that sounded like a Jojo moment!!!

Oh yes... there was alot of fun to be had.... but I'm pretty sure Big D wishes he didn't have too much though. hehehehe

I'm ALL IN!!!!

We had Poker Night last tuesday at Rommel's crib. This time Martin joined us so there were 6 people total that were playing. Unfortunately, I didn't fare so well again. Dao was the first to be eliminated and I followed her soon after. I did play a little bit better this time. I was folding more often and was actually thinking about my bets more so than last time. I lasted a bit longer, but the bottom line is, I still lost. That bastard Martin took everyone for a ride. In the end, when it was just him and Brian playing against each other, everyone knew that he was going to win, just because he had the majority of the chips. Oh well, I guess that's how it goes when you're still learning the ropes. Maybe next week I'll fare better. I guess I'm still in the "treading water" stage. I need to learn how to float before I can swim, so to speak.

I also got more information today about the acquisition that my company is going through. We had a townhall meeting this morning with our current Executive Officers who were nice enough to offer to answer any questions we had. And obviously, alot of our questions centered on how our benefits would be affected by the merger. Apparently, it's not all that bad. One thing that really caught my attention is the education reimbursement program. My company currently reimburses up to 2000 a year, which is pathetic. I mean, c'mon!!! One Grad-level class costs about 1400 at an average. If I were taking grad level courses right now, I would be in school an extra 3 years instead of the typical 2 that other people go through. Once we move to the other company, the reimbursement level would go up to about 5200 a year, which is way better. I can take more classes at a time and be able to finish faster. I'm definitely taking advantage of that!!!

Should I be afraid???

I found out today that my company (SCT) was just acquired by Sungard Data Systems. The first thing that came into my mind when I heard this news was fear. Usually, nothing good comes out of a company being bought by another. It's almost automatic that bad news follows a takeover news such as this. But while we were in the meeting this morning, and I was listening to all the specifics that they could give us, it looked as if this deal may not be bad at all for all parties involved, including little 'ol me in the lowest rung of the corporate ladder. Next to the janitors.

Anyway, as far as I can tell, Sungard Data Systems, the global leader in integrated IT solutions for financial services, wanted to get a foothold in the higher education market. They had already purchased two smaller higher education companies in the past decade and realized the true capacity of having a stronger presence in that market. Enter SCT. SCT, which stands for Systems and Computer Technology, is by far the leading global provider of e-Education technology solutions for institutions of all sizes. The meeting we had this morning stated that SDS will purchase all existing shares of SCT stock for $16.50 in cash. This means that I personally will stand to make money from this acquisition. Then they went on to say that SDS will operate SCT as a separate entity within the SDS umbrella, which means all employees are safe. For now.

I'm kinda excited about this deal, and at the same time, very fearful since I don't know all the details at this point. My company will have a townhall meeting tomorrow morning to address this issue as well as answer questions that everyone has. I hope to hear the right things tomorrow so I can assuade any fears I have at this moment. I'll give out an update tomorrow as soon as I find out more info.

I will miss our.... conversations....

Last Friday, a bunch of the San Diego crew and I went to the movies to see The Last Samurai. There's not much that I can say about this movie other than it was brilliantly written, acted, directed and is the best piece of cinema that I've see in a while. Movies of today depend a whole lot in special effects that boggle and bewilder the mind, but lack the writing and directing backbone to carry the movie from beginning to end. I'm happy to say that The Last Samurai moves away from this cathartic trend and actually takes the audience into a world that was unexpected. Tom Cruise took the movie to a whole new level with his brand of acting while the storytelling can only be described as something that other movies should strive to achieve. I enjoyed this movie so much that I am going to spend another 10 dollars to go watch it again in the theaters, especially since Dao hasn't seen it yet and I would be remiss if I did not force her to enjoy this with me.

A funny thing happened while we were at the movie theater though. We were forced to sit in the front because of the number of people who went to the Grand Opening. As we were watching, this dumbass sitting in front of me started talking on his phone during a critical point in the movie. Eric and I were so annoyed by this that he was about to nudge the guy to have him shut the hell up. I beat him to the punch though by yelling out loud for him to shut the fuck up. The stupid idiot looked at me and kept on talking, I was about to say something else, when lo and behold, Martin, who was sitting behind me, reached over 2 rows, and wacked him on the head. The dude got embarassed, but had that false bravado of machoism thing going and tried to walk out with dignity. HEHEHE.... but Martin put him in his place. If it was up to me, I would've had him castrated and made him gag on his nuts because of his stupidity.

Damn idiots!! I hate people talking on the phone in theaters!! It ruins my movie-going experience. I didn't pay 10 bucks in order for some numbnut to interrupt me just so they can say to the other bitch on the phone how they like to get their nads sucked by a billy goat. I don't give a damn what they say OUTSIDE of the theater, but if you're in there, that's holy ground. Do not pass go. Do not collect 200 bucks. Do not cross that supposed line and do not piss me off!!! I go in there to watch. That's it. If anybody talks, they should be flogged and be thrown in jail so they can be passed around like a pack of menthols.

Nothing new to report today. Dao and Rommell went to the mall so I decided to meet up with them for dinner around 7:30 at Seau's. Since it was only 6, I decided to go to Best Buy. I told myself before I got there that I wouldn't buy anything, but you know me, that promise went out the window faster than a horny man can bone Eliza Dushku. But anyway, I started walking around and I saw all these great X-Box games that I wanted to buy. But buying doesn't make sense for me ever since I modified my X-Box. Since I can now save games in the 120 gig hard drive that I installed, it's more practical for me to rent the games, save them, and then return them. God I'm such a bitch!!! So I walked past all the games and started looking at the DVD's. That's when the itch got me. I got 2 copies of Pirates of the Carribean and 1 copy of Finding Nemo. 2 of the DVD's I'm giving to my parents and the other one I'm keeping for myself. I saw Pirates at the movies with Dao, and I gotta tell ya that this is an awesome movie! This is a must-see that you guys really need to watch. Definitely. So do it!!!!

So after I bought the movies, I headed over to Seau's. The Laker game was on so that was cool too. We ended up sitting in front of this 25 foot big screen TV. There's nothing better than watching the Laker Big Four pound the Mavs like a pimp putting down his ho. My night couldn't get any better than this.

OK... I need to work on my poker skills. Dao, Donny, and I went to Rommel's place to play some Texas Hold-Em poker last night. But before I begin my tirade on my idiotic skills with poker, let me just tell you guys something about Rommel's new pad. It rocks!!!

Rommell (Dao's SINGLE college friend by the way), just bought a new 3 bedroom, 3 fullbath townhome in the nicer area of Mira Mesa, specifically Scripps Ranch where all the white people migrate from the Filipinos and their smelly Dinuguan. Actually, it's the community next to Mira Mesa east of the 15 freeway. Rommell had been looking for a new place for ages now and I'm glad for him that he landed this awesome bachelor's pad. Now all he needs is a shorty to add to the mix and his life is complete. hehehehe.

Anyway, back to poker. Ever since the World Series of Poker started airing on ESPN 2, I've been a devoted watcher, and an avid player (considering I've only played 2 games, muwhahahhahaha!!!!!!). I've watched so much that I pretty much know some of the lingo already.

Pocket 10's, the flop, the river, the turn, call, all in

I think I can hold my own against some players out there, but I gotta play smart. I was actually doing good last night, but I kept playing most of the hands when I should've been folding. I also need to practice my bluffing. God knows that a blind man can see through my intentions faster than I can fart out last night's pizza. And I want a rematch against Donny!! He thinks he's the shit now!! He better watch his back, cuz I know where he lives!!!
