I just heard through the grapevine that Bob Denver, who played Gilligan in "Gilligan's Island" just died from complications brought on by cancer. I wanted to write about him because "Gilligan's Island" was one of my favorite shows when I was growing up. I really appreciated the comedy and the humor that the show was known for and the fantasy world that it created for me. I used to go home after school and watch that and "I Love Lucy" just before starting my homework. Sometimes I would actually dream about being one of the castaways because it just didn't seem that hard of a life and I wouldn't want to leave if I was in their place. In truth, I think it was just because the fantasy behind the show was just way better than the reality that I was living in. So Gilligan, thanks for the memories and hopefully you're in a better place....
I'm afraid that I might not be a good enough father to my future son.
I want to be more than just his father.
I want to be his best friend, confidant, and trusted adviser.
I want him to come to me when he needs help.
I want him to look for me when he has a question.
I want him to realize that he can always depend on me.
Is that too much to ask for?
Home sweet home...
Wifey and I are moving into our new home (complete with 30-year loan and a crazy ass monthly mortgage payment!!!) next weekend, September 10. We don't have much stuff since we're coming from a 2-bedroom condo to a 4-bedroom house, but we still have alot of things to do and a lot of boxes to fill up. At any rate, I still can't wait to get the moving part done. I may hate this whole moving thing, but it is still part and parcel of the whole damn experience of owning a house, so I guess I should be happy about this too.
So we started packing last night and was actually impressed that we did so much. But now our condo is a crappy mess full of boxes. My goal is to actually finish boxing up EVERYTHING by Tuesday night, so that when we get keys to our place on Wednesday, I can do a pre-move and bring over some of our stuff to the new house. We are going to get a U-Haul, but I figured it'll make things easier if some of the little stuff are taken care. That way, our volunteer movers can concentrate on the bigger, heavier things. Hopefully, my planning pays off and things will go smoothly.
